Market Money FAQs

We answer your questions here.

Hopefully, we have anticipated your every need? Maybe not - but check us out below and contact us here, if there is not an answer for your question already here.

The Mirboo North Market is held in the Baromi Park, which is right in the centre of Mirboo North township, right on the main street, called Ridgway. You can access the map and directions here.

The minimum age for entry is 18. This is because the Mirboo North Market Money is classed as a trade promotion lottery and therefore children and minors are not allowed to participate.

The trade promotion lottery rules require a maximum of 28 days between the prize draw and redeeming of a prize hence there are more than 28 days between markets - so we need to calculate the draw date so that the next market is 28 days later.

You can enter as many tickets as transactions you do in a market. For each payment to a stall holder, you are entitled to ask for a Market Money entry ticket.

Market Money is integral to the Market and to our stallholders in this Market. You should have confidence that you can spend your winning tokens wherever you need - and get an entry ticket per transaction.

If you encounter any problems obtaining a ticket (or if you are a winner and trying to exchange your Market money tokens), please come to the Market Information Tent at the BBQ Centre and our helpful and diplomatic volunteers will ensure all goes smoothly for you!

It is not possible for you to claim your winning tokens and hold them over to another date. While we understand your favourite merchant may or may not be present on the market date when you spend your tokens, the reality is that we have no control over which stallholders are at which market, and hence in the spirit of this promotion, we have made the rule that the tokens must be spent at the next market after the one at which you win the prize.

As far as we are aware in the market community, this initiative is unique (at this stage!) to Mirboo North Market

We have been successful in growing the number of stalls in the market over the last 15 months. Consequently, we also need to focus on encouraging more customers to attend the Mirboo North Market. Market Money was seen as an ideal way to provide an incentive for people living at the edge of the Mirboo North district to travel to the market with a solid incentive for being with us.

Easy! When you are done shopping, bring your tickets to the Market Information Tent at the BBQ Centre in the middle of the Market (close to the huge purple INFORMATION tear-drop flag) and fill in your name and phone number - pop the entries into the box and you are in the draw!

Unfortunately the answer to this is a resounding "No". That is one of the basic regulations of the trade promotion lottery. E.g. If you buy a $4.50 coffee with one of our $5 face value Market Money tokens, there will be no change.

We will contact the winners by phone and remind them of the date of the next market. If, for any good reason, they are unable to attend the next market, we will be able to make arrangements for them to attend the immediately following market and redeem their tokens. If arrangements are made for the winner to be at the following market and they fail to show without reasonable attempts to contact the Market organisers, then, at the exclusive discretion of the Market Coordinator, their tickets may be declared null and void and the second draw winner will be contacted and given the opportunity to shop until they drop!

Don't you love 'em? They were designed and implemented by two very talented members of our volunteer team - Gillian Higgs and Robyn Crowe!

If you have a receipt from the stall holder for the transaction and can show us the receipt, we will replace your entry ticket. This must be done before 1 pm as all registration of tickets for this promotion ceases at the close of the market.

It is against the regulations of the trade promotion lottery to redeem tokens for cash. So, when you use the token(s) to buy something that is worth less than the single or combined face value of the token(s), we do not give you change.

It is our investment in the market's sustainability

Let's call this Version 1.0. If people like it and we grow the market - we are definitely open to multiple prizes and Launching Market Money 2.0!

Buy something from the merchant(s) of your choice. You get an entry ticket for every payment transaction you make with a merchant/sall holder - cash or card.

The (Orange) Market Information Tent will be at the BBQ centre - which itself is right in the centre of Baromi Park. We will have a PURPLE teardrop flag with INFORMATION in WHITE outside. Look for the hordes of eager shoppers, lodging their tickets!

You can access the terms and conditions for Mirboo North Market Money at the Information Tent at the BBQ centre in Baromi Park. Or you can read through them all here!

Assuming you have filled in your name and phone number legibly - and we have picked you as the winner - you can expect a phone call to let you know your good fortune within the week after the market.

You receive $150 of market shopping, to be spent at the Mirboo North Market following the market date on which you entered Market Money. It comes as 30 x $5 Market Money tokens, which you are free to redeem with the stall holders of your choice, in exchange for goods of equivalent value. You may augment your winnings with additional cash payments, as you prefer. However, please note it is a regulatory requirement that no token can be redeemed in whole or part, for cash.

You need to treat this as a treat then! Make some impulse buys, think of friends and enemies you'd like to send something to, address long-forgotten thank-yous you know you should have sent, buy stellar replacements for things borrowed and never returned. Or just splurge on a great big bit of steel sculpture - or buy everyone around you a coffee!
